There was interference over the WiFi, but the message and its originator had been blessedly clear. His relief was short-lived, quickly swallowed up by worry for the rest of their family and sadness for the terrible math that told him that many of the other passengers on the plane wouldn't have survived.

He made for his oldest sibling, intent on making certain the more fragile antique robot hadn't been damaged in the crash... and, though he would never admit it, looking to him for guidance in this terrible and unfamiliar situation.
